Juanita Lewis, RAAA President Emerita, gets “real” during the September 2009 reception held on the Busch Campus. Ms. Lewis, along with Nine fellow Alumni, was awarded the Block R Award. The Rutgers University Alumni Association honors alumni and other individuals who devote their time and talents to furthering the mission of the alumni community and or Rutgers University. The Alumni Association acknowledges these notable individuals through its Rutgers Excellence in Alumni Leadership (REAL) initiative. The Block R Award, as part of a series of awards given through the REAL awards program, recognizes service to the alumni body through volunteerism of Rutgers’ community initiatives.
As one of the organization’s most dedicated volunteers, Ms. Lewis was publicly recognized for her long time service and dedication to RAAA, Inc. Under her leadership, RAAA, Inc. has had an ever-increasing presence on campus, to include regularly participating in Homecoming celebrations and holding its annual Hall of Fame Ceremony on campus. Ms. Lewis is a shining example of volunteerism at its very best.
The awards reception was part of the weekend long conference where Dr. Randal Pinkett served as keynote speaker. The Alumni Leaders Conference assembled some of the University’s most active Alumni leaders, from various parts of the country, to participate in the inaugural conference. Dr. Randal Pinkett, RAAA Hall of Fame 2005 Inductee, addressed the audience about the significance of volunteerism.
